This track was originally created many years ago, in the early hours of a crisp winter's night under a clear sky illuminated by the stark light of the moon. The title perhaps comes as no surprise. This was one of my favourite pieces from that time, but when I came to include it in one of my later collections I discovered to my pain that somewhere amongst moving between countries and the passing of years the master had become corrupted and the backups were missing. Of all the pieces that had to get corrupted it was this one! Clutching at a forlorn hope I started on something of a mission and much digging in flight cases, lofts, garages and boxes later I ended up with a thirty year old 3.5 inch disk, a Roland MC-50 sequencer and my venerable Roland D-10 synthesizer. I put the disk in the drive wondering what the odds were it still worked after so much time. To my delight the MC-50 chugged away and there I had MoonltSltde (it didn't support enough characters for the whole name) sitting on the little LCD screen. Cabling up the D-10, it immediately came to life and the MC-50 ran it's sequence, dutifully sending the program change that selected the right voice on the D-10, still kept in memory by it's now ancient battery, and for the first time in nearly three decades I heard Moonlit Solitude. Quickly capturing this in Reaper, and later moving it into Live for mastering one of my favourite compositions now lives again.
